Red Wing Shoe Company’s Sustainability Commitments
Everyone has a role in helping to curb climate change and protect our planet, including us. From the long-lasting quality of our products, to how team members work within our facilities every day and the way in which we operate, all our actions move us closer to delivering our mission to be a great company that makes a difference in people’s lives – and make the world a better and more sustainable place.
And today, these four sustainability commitments guide us on our journey, hold us accountable, and act as our measure of success moving forward.
Carbon
The making and moving of our products has a carbon footprint that is generated throughout various stages of our business.
We commit to understanding our carbon baseline and setting science-based targets in alignment with the Paris Climate Agreement 2030 and 2050 goals.
Chemicals
New chemistry is introduced into our environment every day that can have a negative impact on the delicate biodiversity of our planet.
We commit to adopting a transparent Restricted Substance List for our supply chain to ensure the safety of our workers and customers. Additionally, we commit to local sourcing from suppliers with regenerative practices.
Water
Even in Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes, clean water is a precious finite resource.
We commit to understanding the water consumption associated with the manufacturing of our products. Our tannery, S.B. Foot provides opportunity to innovate and explore water conservation and purification.
Waste
Waste management is critical to the health of our ecosystem and linked directly with air emissions, water quality, and chemical management.
We commit to establishing deliberate recycling practices within our operations. We see opportunity to participate in circular re-commerce programs that highlight the longevity and durability of our products and materials.
